Project Update - April

The public announcement for RazorSecure and the University of Birmingham’s BCRRE Digital Maintenance team project is now available, supported by our project video.

Survey

In April, the Digital Maintenance team have been consulting widely, through organisations such as RIA, RFG and RDG, and held discussions with digital maintenance specialists, asset management fleet engineers and train operators. Our publicly available Digital Maintenance survey closed at the end of April and the results were presented on the 4th May at the Safety and Reliability Society Asia-Pacific regional branch meeting (YouTube link to be available shortly). We have also completed site visits to passenger and freight train depots to observe current digital maintenance practices, gaining insights and potential gaps in the process and held in depth discussion with several ROSCO fleet engineers.

Industry Research

Drawing on our experience in the field and speaking directly with RoSCOs, operators, maintainers and train builders, we have reviewed and reported on a generic train architecture. We also completed a site visit to a maintainer, to get an insight into the current maintenance practises and gaps in the process. This will form the basis of our proof of concept design and testing programme in May, June and July.

EDI

Throughout the project we have embedded EDI practices, and have recorded a video to provide insight into our commitment and ongoing actions.

The next public update on the Digital Maintenance project will be on the 8th June at the World Congress of Rail Research in Birmingham, UK (also streamed online).
