Project Update - June

Project Schedule

The Digital Maintenance Project is firmly within the development phase, with development of the 3 Safety Related Application Conditions (SRACs) occurring. Our first use case was demonstrated in June, with the final two demonstrable in July and August respectively.

Our 3 Safety Related Application Conditions (SRACs) include:

  • Two man sign off on tickets (people)

  • Display the train ID clearly throughout the update (technology)

  • Record actions taken for playback and audit (process)

The Testing Phase has begun, and this will be vital for verification and validation of our proposed solution. Birmingham has completed commissioning of its rail signalling testbed, while one testbed is currently nearing completion (passenger-facing systems testbed) and one is currently being designed for procurement (propulsion/braking testbed). Hardware has been received and installed on the testbed, and software-based testing of our solution has begun.

The BCRRE test laboratory will need to be relocated as the University of Birmingham campus is being fully shut down from 16/7 through to 11/08 due to part of the Commonwealth Games operations occurring on the university campus. Transitional plans are ongoing and we will report on it at the next month.

Outreach and Engagement

In June, Dr Emma Taylor spoke at the World Congress on Rail Research’s Professional Growth Session on How to Innovate in a Safety Critical Industry. The three sessions were streamed worldwide and will be available for free download. To support this, RazorSecure created a centralised resource hub with supporting material related to the project. This can be accessed here: WCRR Resource Hub - RazorSecure

Dr Richard Thomas attended the NCSC-facilitated Logging and Monitoring RITICS workshop, providing expert input on the current state of logging and monitoring of critical national infrastructure assets, and highlighting the focus of this TRIG project and the importance of monitoring and logging digital maintenance activities.

The Safety and Reliability Society paper preparation is ongoing.

A further tailored go around of industry consultation was carried out with RSSB and ROSCO engineering specialists.
